This was taken January 14 so Kaitlyn was just over 10 months old.  Kaitlyn loves watching this video and laughs when she sees herself wave Ducky around.

Mavericks Surf Competition and the Newest National Park

For MLK weekend, we went to the beach at Half Moon Bay.  We went to the spot that the Mavericks Surf Competition is held.  We didn't even know, but when we got there, it was very crowded and everyone was there scoping out their spots for the competition that would be held the next day.  We even saw some surfers test out the waves.  This is a very famous surf spot and the waves can get to 40 feet.  It was fun to be there the day before.  Kaitlyn loved the sand and even ate a few handfuls.

Kaitlyn loves the water and doesn't care if it is cold at all.  She just walks right into the waves.  Jeremy had her hand and she just sat down in the water.  We didn't even have a change of clothes for her because we never thought she would do that.  We were wet the rest of the day.

After we ate lunch, we drove down the coast a ways and went to another beach with firm sand Kaitlyn could walk on.

On MLK day (Monday, Jan. 21) we went to the newest National Park.  It is called Pinnacle's National Park and used to be a National Monument.  It was a 2 hour drive south and was in the middle of nowhere.  These pictures are taken with my phone because we brought the camera and took pictures with it until we realized there was no memory card.  How annoying.

There were caves to explore.  Kaitlyn didn't really care or notice that we were in a very dark place for a while.  It wasn't a very impressive cave because we were basically going under a boulder pile.  It wasn't that long either.

At the end of the hike, Kaitlyn was getting tired and didn't want to be in the front pack anymore.  So we let her out to walk.  She wanted to walk straight up the sides of the mountain.  Then she didn't want to do that anymore and just sat down.  She played in the dirt for a while until we could pick her up without her screaming.  She was worn out.  When we got to the car, she loved her car seat.  It was a fun place, but I'm still not convinced it should be a National Park.

January: 10 Months old

January was a lot of fun because we have had wonderful weather (we Californians are wimps when it comes to cold and we had a few cold days, but nothing to really complain about).  Kaitlyn gets to swing multiple times a day and always waits banging at the sliding door to go outside.  When I open it, she walks the same way every time.  She goes the hard way over the hills and bark.  It is hard work and she still needs my help to get down the hills.  These hills are nothing we would notice, but she grunts with exertion the whole time.

 

Every now and then, we go visit Jeremy at school.  This time there were ducks in the water fountain!

Kaitlyn loved her Nativity, but we finally put it away so it wasn't too well used for next year.

January was a great month once Kaitlyn got over her fear that I would leave her (from Christmas).  She has even started sleeping through the night most nights (by the end of January).  We are SOOOO Happy about that!

I got to watch Daniel Richards for 2 hours and Kaitlyn loved it.  He taught her how to bang two balls together.

Eating just keeps getting messier.  Instead of just dropping food on the ground to see it fall, she throws it.  She has a pretty good arm sometimes and can get a mandarin orange all the way to the other side of the kitchen.  She has also decided not to eat baby food anymore.  Somehow she knows the difference.  Her favorite food at the moment is whole strawberries.

 I made a Little Red Riding Hood Cape for my niece Mykelle's birthday.  We had to try it on for size even though it's way too big.

 One day we found Kaitlyn drinking out of her baby doll's bottle.  We started putting water in it and she loved drinking out of it.  She drank more water out of this than from her sippy cups.  We would have to refill it a few times each meal, but it was worth it.  That was until she realized she could get water everywhere if she shook it...

One Saturday we went to Golden Gate Park and walked around and saw the ducks and all the people's dogs.

It's such a beautiful and ginormous park.
